Holman and Elmore correctional facilities are on lock-down as inmates continue to refuse to do assigned jobs within the facilities.
The Alabama Department of Corrections announced the measures just before 2 p.m. Monday, which stated the situation began Sunday when the inmates refused to assist corrections staff in preparing the morning meal.
On Monday, inmates continued to disobey orders to report to their assigned jobs.
“The inmates have not given any demands, or a reason for refusing to work,” said ADOC spokesman Bob Horton. “As a precaution, the correctional facilities are on lock-down with limited inmate movement while ADOC investigates the situation.”
Horton said correctional staff are responding by delivering the basic services to all inmates at both facilities.
“The facilities are secure; inmates are receiving their daily meals, and their healthcare needs are being met,” he said.
No other correctional facilities are on lock-down.
