Thomas Caldwell Croker

Mr. Thomas Caldwell Croker, 91, died Saturday, April 26, 2003. He was an honor member of the first graduating class of Forestry at North Carolina State University. He was a researcher in the United State Forest Service for 45 years. He received numerous awards and was a published author. He was an honorary member of the Alabama Forest Service and was project manager of the Southern Forest Experiment Station. He oversaw this research project in Brewton until his retirement. In 1997, the Governor of Alabama issued a proclamation recognizing his work in Alabama. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and was preceded in death by brothers, Wooley Croker and Shields Croker; a daughter, Dr. Carolyn Croker Matthews and a grandson, Thomas Edward Matthews.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Myrtle Renner Croker; two daughters, Kathleen Burns of Jackson, Miss. and Charlotte Kerr of Birmingham; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 28, at 7 p.m. at the chapel of Kiser Funeral Home in Greeneville, Tenn. with Pastor Larry Moore officiating. Burial follow Tuesday, April 29, at 11 a.m. at St. James Memorial Cemetery with Kiser Funeral Home directing.
