Man flees jail, now back in custody

A Brewton man was back in custody Thursday following an attempt to escape from Escambia County Sheriff's Deputies.
According to a press release from the sheriff's office, Darren Wayne Cain, 38, was arrested on Thursday at his home on Travis Road on a warrant of theft of property second degree.
While being transported to the Escambia County Detention Center, Cain forced his way out of Captain Chuck McMullen's vehicle and fled into the parking lot behind BankTrust.
The Brewton Police Department assisted by helping to establish a perimeter to apprehend the escapee.
Cain was captured about five minutes after his escape.
He was found hiding in a shed behind Nordmeyer Tire Center on St. Nicholas Avenue.
He has now been charged with escape third degree and is currently being held in the Escambia County Detention Center.
