I am writing this in support of the 10 mill ad valorem tax needed to support our schools in the Escambia County System and the Brewton City System.
Having served 40 years in schools in north, central and south Alabama, I am able to recognize that we have excellent facilities and competent personnel in both the Brewton City and Escambia County systems; however, money is needed to maintain and operate these systems. Because of proration of state funds, cutbacks in oil and gas severance taxes, decreases in sales tax revenue and required local match for state allocation (2004), our systems have been placed in dire circumstances.
To avoid drastic measures such as overcrowded classrooms, teacher unit cuts, closure of some schools and elimination of extracurricular activities, we must support this 10 mill ad valorem tax for our schools.
As a retired administrator, I ask that you cast your vote on Dec. 9, in support of our schools and that you encourage your neighbors and friends to vote yes also.
