It was a hot day and the river must have looked pretty good to Glen Nelson's truck Saturday, July 31.
Nelson and a friend, Leon Thomas, were planning a fishing trip on the Conecuh River.
They had launched a boat at the boat landing at Riverview when the truck jumped out of gear and rolled back into the water.
The current caught the truck and it floated about 100 feet downriver before lodging in the river bed.
The windshield wipers wiped away as water lapped at the top of the truck while those on the river bank tried to figure out how to get the vehicle out of the water.
The Escambia County Rescue Squad was called and divers Wayne Martin and Phillip Wiggins went into the water to attach chains and cables. Someone brought in a logging skidder and attached the chains. After about three hours they were finally able to pull the truck out of the water, but the boat trailer was gone.
As no one was hurt, there was much joking and poking fun about the whole event.
