High school football games will contain four extra timeouts for heat relief during the first three weeks of the season.
The heat breaks will come after the first dead ball after the six-minute mark in each quarter.
The National High School Federation actually gives officials the authority to issue heat breaks at any time they feel they are warranted. However, the Alabama High School Athletic Association has made the heat breaks mandatory for the first three weeks when temperatures are usually at their worst.
