Mr. Calvin Avant Sr. died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at his residence. He was a native and resident of Escambia County, Ala., and a member of Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Jannie Avant of Brewton; five children, Herman Avant of Jersey City, N.J., Matthew Avant of LaGrange, Ga., and Bobbie Matthews, Dave Avant and Calvin Avant Jr., all of Brewton; two sisters, Ruth Moton of Pollard and Arine Jackson of Brewton, and a host of grandchildren and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m. at Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. S.C. Tucker officiating. Burial followed at Baptist Hill Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
