If somebody had told Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawks baseball coach Jim Morrill before the season started his team would be 10-4 in the Alabama Community College Conference and 25-8 overall at this point, he would have snatched it up in a heartbeat.
Morrill would have been a little less apt to take those marks before this weekend that saw JDCC lose three of four ACCC games to Wallace State-Dothan.
The Warhawks were bounced twice Saturday in Dothan by an 11-1 margin in five innings in the opener and

4-1 in the nightcap. Wallace State made it three straight Sunday with a 7-5 win in the first game at Brewton before the Warhawks salvaged some of the weekend with a 12-2, six-inning triumph in the finale.
"We're still in a good position in the conference race despite this weekend. We didn't play well in any phase in the two games at Dothan. We had several chances to win the first game Sunday, but didn't. Fortunately we were able to close out the weekend on a positive note with the 10-run victory in the finale." Morrill said. "I think having been off for eight days prior to Saturday really hurt us. We had been playing really well before the time off."
Robert Brown's complete game three-hitter in the finale put JDCC in the weekend win column. Brown overcame a first inning that saw him give up a single, three walks, a hit a batter and both Wallace State runs.
"It took Robert a while to find a groove, but he settled down and pitched a nice game," Morrill said.
Leadoff man R.J. Thompson also played a key role in the win with two singles, three walks, a stolen base and an RBI.
Logan Hundley's RBI single in the bottom of the third inning snapped a 2-2 deadlock and put JDCC ahead for good. The biggest blow though probably belonged to Kyle McPherson. McPherson had a three-run single that highlighted a six-run fourth inning that extended the Warhawks lead to 9-2.
In Sunday's opener, JDCC was never able to overcome a 3-0 advantage Wallace State built in the first three innings.
Brown belted a two-run homer in the fourth inning that cut the gap to 3-2, but the visitors tacked on four more runs in the fifth that took their lead to 7-2.
A two-run single by McPherson in the bottom of the fifth and an RBI single by Brian Hannah in the sixth cut JDCC's deficit to 7-5, but the Warhawks were unable to get any closer.
JDCC's bats managed a mere four hits in Saturday's games at Dothan. A one-out single by Charles Conklin was the lone JDCC safety in the first game. Hannah, Good and McPherson had singles in game two
The Warhawks begin a week on the road with a doubleheader at Snead State Tuesday, a Thursday pair at Faulkner University and a twinbill at Shorter College Sunday.
