A study conducted by the Coastal Gateway Economic Development Authority revealed that one of the biggest drawbacks in promoting industry to Escambia County was its litter problem.
In response to the growing problem, members with the Chamber of Commerce, Quality of Life committee under the ACE corporation and PALS (People Against Littering) are joining forces to work on alleviating the nagging problem
Industry is what helps a community thrive. Without strong industry communities become ghost towns. It's a shame that litter is the only thing keeping the city of Brewton from receiving industry.
According to Janice Castleberry, a representative with Covington County, they have seen a tremendous response in growth due to their county-wide clean up efforts.
A county wide planning meeting to kick off a litter free Escambia County will be held at 10 a.m. on March 14 at the Brewton Community Center.
Representatives will coordinate clean up efforts and combine resources among the different organizations to help promote Economic Development in the area.
Please make an effort to join in on the discussion and help Escambia County become litter free. Have every effort to attend or have your company or organization be represented.
