Readers provide photo answers
The response to the photographs we have been running has been just great.
You may remember the one of the T.R. Miller Class of 1939.
I have had several calls about that and finally got a note from Mr. David O. Allen who sent in a newspaper article from The Brewton Standard dated Feb. 29, 1975. The article says that the photo was taken in front of the old T.R. Miller High School, which now houses the third and fourth grades. Judging the time frame of 1975, this would be the building that now houses the Brewton City Board of Education. At least that is my guess.

You see someone out there knows the answers to our questions. You just have to find out who that someone is.
Now, back to the cemetery tombstones. I want you to know that I heard from several readers who pointed my way to some more beautiful stones. I hope to make it to the cemeteries and get some more pictures and then continue with the epitaphs on some of the graves around the area. I had a touch of the bug last week and did not get to do all that I had planned. If you have photos or make some of interesting stones, epitaphs, or even places, bring them by the office located at 407 St. Nicholas Avenue or mail them to P.O. Box 887, Brewton, Ala. 36427. I will be happy to use them if I can.
One lady told me there are several beautiful stones at a couple of cemeteries on Appleton Road and another told me there are some at Pineview Cemetery on Foshee Road.
Don't forget that the Alabama Cemetery Preservation Alliance is looking for the finding, preservation and protecting of all Alabama cemeteries, including those that are lost to time and vegetation. The local coordinators for Escambia County are James and Norma Rogers who live here in Brewton. Give them a call if you are interested in a particular cemetery. Ann Biggs-Williams told me last week that two Escambia County cemeteries are not listed on the Alabama List of Cemeteries, Union Cemetery in Alco and Franklin Cemetery, which is located at Smurfit-Stone Corporation.
Remember; don't let your ancestor be forgotten in an unmarked and unprotected spot.
