Downtown Brewton is gearing up for the 2006 Christmas Parade, which will be held this Saturday at 2 p.m.
So far, there are more than 50 entries, including floats, antique vehicles, decorated golf carts, motorcycles, bands, twirlstars, cheerleaders, and, of course, Santa Claus riding in the fire truck throwing out plenty of candy.
Mrs. Claus will also be there riding in a place of honor. The parade will last approximately one hour. At the end of the parade, Santa will be escorted to the gazebo in the City Park to talk with the children and hand out goodies.
The parade will line up in East Brewton on Shoffner Street. It will come down Forrest Avenue, over the bridge on Mildred Street, to the main intersection at the railroad tracks. It will turn onto St. Joseph Street to Belleville Avenue and will disband on side streets of McLellan, Rankin, and Granberry.
Entry forms are still located at the Chamber office inside Brewton City Hall. All floats being judged must line-up at 12:30 p.m. All other entries must line-up no later than 1:15 p.m.
All entries have been contacted by mail regarding their line-up position. If there is no completed entry form and signed release, you will not be allowed in the parade.
Horses are not allowed in the parade, organizers said.
