Escambia County has been awarded federal funds under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program for 2007.
Escambia County has been chosen to receive $14,447 to supplement the Emergency Food and Shelter programs in the county. A local board will determine how the funds are distributed.
Local organizations must submit applications by Friday, Jan. 19, 2007. They must meet certain criteria in order for their applications to be reviewed. They must: be private voluntary non-profits or units of government; have an accounting system; practice nondiscrimination; have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs; if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board; applications must submit documentation of recipients receiving services; and agree to an audit.
Applicants interested in participating should contact David Adams, Escambia County Emergency Management director, at 867-0232 or P.O. Box 848, Brewton, AL 36427. The local board will meet in the Escambia County Commissioner's Boardroom on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at noon to allocate the funds.
Escambia County East Chapter of the American Red Cross has been the recipient of some of these funds in the past and Director Rogene Martin says it has been a big help.
