Matthew Kemp, a Jefferson Davis Community College student, has been invited to perform at the 2007 Respect the Mic! Poetry Slam!  This event will be held Saturday, May 19, as part of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival Southern Writers' Project Weekend. 
Kemp was instrumental in starting JDCC's Lyrical Lounge. The Lounge provides students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to share poetry and readings.
Sharrif Simmons, from HBO/Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam, will be hosting the event, with Birmingham hiphop artist Constantine The Emcee also performing.
