A new pediatrician will open her office at the Brewton Medical Center on Aug. 9.
Dr. Marina Thompson, who was born in Birmingham but has family ties to Brewton, will join the medical center staff.
Thompson graduated from Auburn University, before attending medical school at University of Alabama at Birmingham. She did her residency at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.
Thompson is married to Bruce Thompson, son of Joe and Ruth Thompson of Brewton. They have three children, Hayley, 5; Lauren, 2; and Nathan, 3 months.
Bruce Thompson will spend time looking after the family farm and taking care of the horses that they have not had the time for until now. Their daughter, Hayley, will be starting kindergarten this fall while the Thompson grandparents get in some quality time with the other children.
She is taking appointments now and will see her first patients Aug. 9. Thompson's office will be located in the north end of the Brewton Medical Center in offices formerly occupied by Dr. Jonathan Southworth. He is moving into other offices in the building.
