Phase one for the T.R. Miller Tigers football team is nearly complete.
The Tigers will wrap up their summer conditioning work this week, take a week off and then suit up for real when official practice kicks off Aug. 6
Riggs indicated 48 varsity players are expected to complete the summer work program.
One thing the summer work has not done is solidify any starting spots in the lineup.
Riggs said the summer has been a productive time for a pair of first-year-seniors, lineman Fred Samuel and wide receiver Brandon Andrews.
T.R. Miller's summer program included a seven-on-seven competition at Gulf Shores earlier this month. The Tigers went 0-4 in that competition, which included Class 5A schools UMS-Wright, Gulf Shores and Robertsdale as well as perennial Class 2A state title contender Leroy.
Most of T.R. Miller's summer work was during the early morning hours.
The T.R. Miller coach said there is a transition period when the players go from summer conditioning to actual practice.
The summer has been a bit of a transition period for the T.R. Miller coaching staff. The staff has added three new coaches, Mikel Riggs as receivers coach, Chris Baxter as defensive coordinator and McAnally as middle school coach. Marc Edge moved from defensive coordinator to assistant head coach, while Eddie Brundidge moved from linebackers and special teams coach into the offensive coordinator's role.
