As the T.R. Miller Tigers enter the non-region week five against the Straughn Tigers, Tiger coach Jamie Riggs said his team will be facing a much better Straughn team than last year.
Straughn (2-2, 1-2 Class 3A region 2) is coming off a 48-7 loss to Pike County last Friday.
T.R. Miller (2-2, 2-1 Class 4A region 1) is coming off a 35-6 region win over Monroeville. The Tigers had their most complete game of the young season as they put points on the scoreboard early and often and their defense kept Monroeville off the board. Monroeville’s only points of the night came off a Miller fumble deep in their own territory.
T.R. Miller will see another spread offense this week in Straughn.
Throwing the ball for Straughn will be junior quarterback Ryne Taylor, who is also the Straughn coach’s son.
While Riggs speaks highly of Straughn’s offense, he is also considerate of their defense.
With this week being a non-region week for all teams before they hit the second part of their schedules, Riggs said he is pretty pleased with his team.
Game time against Straughn is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Brewton Municipal Stadium.
