U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) announced that Mary Martha Scott of Lanett, Alabama, today completed her four-month tenure as a member of the United States Senate Page Program. Mary Martha is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Scott III. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. William H. Scott, Jr. of West Point, Georgia, and the late Mr. and Mrs. W.Y. Jernigan III of Brewton.
For over 100 years, high school juniors have been appointed and sponsored by a Senator to become Congressional Pages. While in D.C., Mary Martha's duties included delivering of correspondence and legislative material within the Congressional complex, preparing the chamber for Senate sessions, and carrying bills and amendments to the desk. While there are 100 Senators, there are only 30 pages, making the program highly competitive.
Scott is currently a junior at Springwood School, where she is a member of the band, chorus club, Spanish club, and the basketball and tennis teams.
