Have you ever noticed the gentleman in East Brewton whose dog helps him carry groceries home?
Have you heard about the amazing young people who are students in area schools?
Have you seen some of the work our area artists are turning out?
Many of those people - and their unique stories - will be featured a week from today in our Progress edition.
The theme of the edition is “Our Town,” and the idea behind the stories and photos is to showcase what makes Brewton and East Brewton special. News Editor Lisa Tindell came up with the idea months ago, and our staff has been working on the Progress edition ever since, writing stories, shooting photos and selling advertising to support the entire project.
The result is the largest section of The Brewton Standard you'll receive all year, and it will likely land with a thud on your doorstep next Wednesday.
Our staff has worked very hard on this project, with the idea that it will be a section you can keep and read for weeks and months to come. This is a section that will be seen beyond Brewton, as well, as our Progress edition often goes to folks interested in moving here or interested in moving a business here. We hope they will be able to see what a special place Brewton is, as well.
As an added bonus for our readers, we have a special contest in this year's section. The “Our Community” section is filled with 20 photos taken around Brewton - photos of specific parts of buildings and other architectural elements in our community. They are close-ups of the places we pass by every day, and we'd like to see just how many you can recognize. If you think you know them, just fill out the entry form inside that section and drop if off at The Brewton Standard office on St. Nicholas Avenue, and you could win $100. The winner will be the person who knows the most answers, and in the event of a tie, we'll draw for the winner.
So be sure to get your hands on a copy of next Wednesday's newspaper - not only for a chance to win the contest but for the winning people featured in the Progress edition.
