An elderly Escambia County man fatally shot himself at the entrance of the Andalusia Regional Hospital emergency room Friday afternoon.
According to ARH chief executive officer Mark Dooley, the victim was not a patient at the hospital at the time of the incident.
The name of the victim was not released pending notification of family, but officials at the scene identified him as an elderly Escambia County man.
Dooley also said the incident took place between 2 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. and that the staff did not hear anything prior to finding the victim.
The Andalusia Police Department, Advanced EMS and the Covington County Coroner's Office were on scene.
