It was not a must-win game, but it was a good win and a much-needed win for T.R. Miller Monday night at home as they took a 5-4 win over the Flomaton Hurricanes in Brewton.
The win puts the Tigers at 6-10 and gives the Tigers momentum for a big area game Friday night against Andalusia.
John Mathieu earned the win on the mound for the Tigers and Robert Knowles picked up the save.
Hart was also please with Robert Knowles' pitching in the win.
Mathieu went five innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits, struck out three and walked four.
Dylan Smith came in relief of Mathieu and went a third of an inning, allowing three walks and striking out one.
Knowles relieved Smith and went one and two-thirds innings and allowed no runs and one hit in the win for the Tigers.
The Tigers got on the board first in the bottom of the first on a RBI single by Mathieu that scored Corey Williams who had reached on a walk.
The Hurricanes struck for three runs in the top of the second inning to grab a 3-1 lead, but the Tigers rebounded with three of their own in the inning to take a 4-3 lead.
Garret Robinson led off the inning with an error on the Hurricanes as Sam Sharpe followed and another error on the Hurricanes put both runners on base for the Tigers.
Cody Swain sacrificed in a run for the Tigers and Wes Dickey's double scored a run for the Tigers in the inning to tie the game at 3-3 and would add another run in the inning to take a 4-3 lead.
The Tigers would add a run in the third inning to take a 5-3 lead and hold on after a Hurricane run in the sixth inning that cut the lead to 5-4 but was able to hold on for the win by one.
Dickey was 2-for-4 with a single and a double and a RBI and a run scored. Corey Williams was 1-for-3 with a single and run scored, and Will Waters was 1-for-2 with a single.
Mathieu was 1-for-3 with a RBI single, and Robinson was 2-for-3 with two runs.
Cody Swain added a sacrifice RBI in the Tigers' win.
The Tigers' next game will be a very important area game against Andalusia in Andalusia on Friday. Game time is set for 5 p.m. The Tigers are currently 2-2 in area play with losses to Andalusia in W.S. Neal and two wins over Hillcrest.
The Tigers own both tie breakers over the Bulldogs and Eagles and if they can beat both teams, will make the playoffs.
A loss to either team will hurt their chances and pretty much knock them out of the playoff race.
