Lane joins drum, bugle corp

Mackenzie Lane of Chipley, Fla., a baritone player, has been accepted into the prestigious Spirit Drum and Bugle Corps based at Jacksonville State University.
Lane is the son of Johnny and Angela Lane of Chipley. He is the grandson of Jimmy and Sylvia Clark of Brewton and Jimmy White of East Brewton.
Mackenzie is a senior at Chipley High School and successfully completed the auditioning for a coveted spot in the Corps and has been offered a baritone position.
According to Johnny Lane, his son has been competing since the week after Thanksgiving. Since that time he has competed once a month and received his contract early in March.
He will march with the group that includes 96 horn players, 30 drum players and a cymbal line.
The group will compete at the national championship of drum and bugle corps, which will be held in Indianapolis, Ind. this year.
Lane plans on continuing his music education at college this fall.
