Five Brewton area students were among the graduates of Troy University. The students received their diplomas during commencment exercises held last week on the college campus in Troy.
The head of the Business Council of Alabama encouraged Troy University graduates to become “agents of change” in the world during commencment ceremonies held last week..
Billy Canary, president and chief executive officer of the BCA, addressed more than 400 graduates participating in spring commencement exercises at Sartain Hall on the Troy Campus. He told graduates not to fear change, but embrace it, because they will see more changes than any preceding generation.
Canary told the students to emulate the “change agents” and the “unseen benefactors” that have helped them along the way, such as parents, siblings, teachers and friends.
Canary joined the BCA after serving as president and chief executive officer of the American Trucking Associations (ATA) in Washington, D.C. A former elected official, Canary has an extensive background in the public policy and governmental arenas. In 1989, President George H. W. Bush appointed him to serve in the White House as special assistant to the president for intergovernmental affairs. Following his time at the White House, Canary was named chief of staff for the Republican National Committee.
Brewton students graduating from Troy University in the spring commencement exercises at Sartain Hall were, Jade Alexander Gantt and Samuel Trenholm Gant III, who graduated with a bachelor's degree in science and Rachel Ivey Baker, who graduated Suma Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in science. Joshua Holland Parker graduated with a master's degree in science.
Stephaine Dawn Adams of Flomaton graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in science.
