On Saturday morning, 17 youth from the area had aspirations of being the next Walter Lewis as they competed in a Punt, Pass and Kick competition at Brewton Municipal Stadium.
Competitors in the contest each had the opportunity to punt the ball, pass the ball, and kick the ball the farthest they could and the most accurate they could. Distances then were tallied from the farthest and most accurate to come up with a winner based on the most total points of each division.
Three children competed in the 8-9 age group, five in the 10-11 age group, six in the 12-13 age group, and three in the 14-15 age group.
Drew Williamson took first place in the 8- to 9-year-old group with Hunter Brittain in the 10-11, Chandler Brown in the 12-13 and Conner Denton in the 14-15 age group. Williamson totaled 151 points in his age group to clam first place.
Brittain took first place in the 10- and 11-year-old division with 224 points.
In the 12- to 13-year-old divsion, Brown took first place with 209 points edging out second place Ryan Gray by three points.
In the 14- and 15-year-old division, Denton took first place with 251 points.
Winners from the Punt, Pass, and Kick competition advanced to compete in the next level of competition in Mobile at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Winners from that event will then advance to the Louisiana Super Dome in New Orleans to compete. Winners there would be recognized at the Super Bowl in 2009.
Other competitors in the event were Stokes Jennings, Russell Smith, Hunter Harp, Trippe Floyd, Kyle Davis, Tylan McDonald, Jones Manning, Chris Jones, Zach Griffin, Ryane Gray, Dedrionne Lee, Kevin Davis and Caleb McAnally.
