Drug task force officers were attacked by a pit bull and had to thwart an attempted escape by a suspect when they arrested three Brewton men on drug charges recently.
The arrests came after a lengthy investigation, said officers with the 21st judicial circuit Drug Task Force.
Frank Junior “Speedy” Collins III, 27, of Brewton was arrested and charged with trafficking powder cocaine; three counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance for cocaine, Ecstasy and Lortab; and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Collins was listed with three addresses of 94 Hamilton St., 16 Pitts St., and 201 Burks Dr. in Brewton.
Chris Ladon “FeeFee” Howard, 36, of 325 Springhill Drive in Brewton, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance - powder cocaine, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
James Deangelo Williams, 29, of 1419 Douglas Ave., was arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine and unlawful possession of a controlled substance - cocaine.
The arrests were made Nov. 18 after law enforcement officers executed three search warrants on the three known addresses for Collins.
DTF Commander Greg Forbes said the bust resulted in the recovery of drugs and drug related items.
Forbes said the investigation into activity of Collins is ongoing.
Forbes also said two incidents occurred during the search.
Forbes also said one of the suspects, James Williams, attempted to escape by jumping through a glass window.
Assisting DTF officers in the execution of the search warrants were officers from the Brewton Police Department, East Brewton Police Department, the Escambia County Sheriff's Department, Flomaton Police Department and Atmore Police Department.
Bond for Collins and Williams was set at $1.5 million each. Both remained in custody at the Escambia County Detention Center as of Friday. Howard was released on a $5,000 bond, according to Sheriff's officials.
