The Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawk softball team posted a 4-2 record in the Wallace-State Hanceville tournament over the weekend to improve to 5-11 overall.
With the 4-2 record, the Lady Warhawks won the silver bracket championship.
The Lady Warhawks lost their first game in the tournament 7-6 to Bevill State-Sumiton in eight innings, dropping their record to 1-10 and increasing their losing streak to 10.
In the second game, JDCC ended their losing streak with a 3-1 win over Aiken Tech of South Carolina.
In game three, JDCC dropped a 6-0 loss to Tallahassee (ranked No. 12 in the nation) before winning their next three. JDCC defeated Northwest Shoals 10-6, Young Harris 2-1 and ended the tournament with an 8-3 win over Indian Hills Community College in the championship game.
Nims said as a team, JDCC batted .241 with 39 hits, five doubles, one triple, two homeruns and had a fielding percentage of .946.
Carla Ray was 1-0 on the mound with a 1.29 ERA in seven innings with four strikeouts Nims added.
Jessica Morris led JDCC’s offense. Morris batted .389 with seven hits and had two stolen bases. Sarah Vardeman batted .235 with two homeruns and Aleah Payne batting .316 with six hits and six RBIs.
Ashleigh Allgood batted .300, with six hits, one double, and one triple.
Game one: BSSCC 7, JDCC 6
In game one of the tournament against Bevill State-Sumiton, JDCC forced extra innings after a four-run first inning by Bevill but fell in extra innings 7-6 to drop to 1-10.
Aleah Payne led JDCC at the plate as she went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Allgood, Varderman, and Kristin Myers were all 1-for-4. Allgood added one RBI and Jessica Morris was 1-for-3.
Allgood took the loss on the mound. Allgood went seven and one-third innings allowing two earned runs (seven total) on six hits, walked three and struck out eight in the loss.
Bevill scored four runs in the first inning, two in the fourth and one in the eighth to get the win. JDCC scored five in the third and one in the fifth.
Game two: JDCC 3, Aiken Tech 1
In game two of the tournament, the Lady Warhawks ended their 10-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Aiken Tech.
With the win, JDCC improved to 2-10 with their first win since the first game of the season at home.
Allgood was 1-for-4 with two RBIs to held lead JDCC to the two-run win.
Vardeman, Brittany Cahoon, Morris and Aleah Payne were all 1-for-3 and CaSandra Yarbough added an RBI in the win.
Candice Lawrence was 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Carla Ray was the winning pitcher for the Lady Warhawks. Ray went seven innings and allowed one run on six hits, one walk and four strikeouts.
Game three: Tallahassee 6, JDCC 0
Tallahassee scored four runs in the first inning and two in the fifth inning to drop JDCC to 2-11 overall and to 1-2 in the tournament.
Allgood and Morris were both 1-for-3 in the loss and Yarbrough was 1-for-1.
Morris took the loss on the mound for the Lady Warhawks as she went five innings and allowed six earned runs on 11 hits, and struck out one.
Kayla McKnight went two innings and allowed two hits.
Game four: JDCC 10, NWS 6
JDCC overcame a 5-0 deficit with seven runs in the bottom of the third inning en route to a 10-6 win over Northwest Shoals and improve to 3-11.
Vardeman was 1-for-2 with a homerun and one RBI in the win to lead JDCC. Megan Denney and Wilson were 2-for-4 with doubles. Wilson had two RBIs and Denney had one in the win.
Myers was 1-for-2 and Morris was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double.  Payne added one RBI and Marshall was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Allgood picked up the win on the mound. She went seven innings and allowed two earned runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out seven.
Game five: JDCC 2, Young Harris
JDCC scored two runs in the first inning and held on for a 2-1 win after Young Harris scored in the top of the seventh.
Allgood picked up the win on the mound and was 1-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs to lead in the win.
Myers was 1-for-2 at the plate.
The win improved JDCC to 4-11 overall with their second straight win.
Allgood allowed one run on six hits in seven innings and walked three and struck out five.
Game six: JDCC 8, Indian Hills CC 3
In the silver bracket championship, JDCC picked up their fourth win in the tournament and fifth overall to improve to 5-11 with their third straight win in an 8-3 win.
JDCC jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, then a 7-2 lead and added a run in the top of the seventh to get the five-run win.
Allgood was 3-for-4 and Vardeman was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
Myers was 1-for-2 and Morris was 2-for-4 in the win. Payne was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Wilson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead in the win.
Lawrence was 1-for-2.
Allgood picked up the win on the mound for JDCC. She went seven innings and allowed two earned runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out eight in the win.
