Is there anyone today who has not been touched in some way by cancer? We all know a mother, father, brother, sister, friend or neighbor who has endured this disease.
Cancer doesn’t discriminate, but we have the power to fight back with our words, or actions and our money.
Local Relay For Life organizers and team members have been taking to heart this year’s Relay theme: Remember. Celebrate. Fight Back.
Teams have raised money in some unusual ways this year, from a cake contest to a children’s beauty pageant. Relay contributors have run a 5K, they have taken chances on raffles, and they will even help clean up the community Saturday during the Clean Up for Cancer event.
With so many people working hard to help fight cancer and raise awareness of the disease, we owe it to the folks in our community who have been touched by cancer to show up Saturday and help them celebrate the lives of those fighting the disease, remember those who have been lost, and fight back against cancer.
Relay For Life is truly going to be a community event this year, with activities planned for the whole family all day long. Relay begins at noon on the grounds of the Brewton Area YMCA. Teams will have their grills ready to provide food, and entertainment will last the entire day, in the form of a womanless beauty pageant, Relay Idol and other activities.
Most important, you can be inspired by the survivors and caregivers who are in the trenches fighting cancer every day.
