The 2009 T.R. Miller boys track team joined the list of five other Tiger track teams Friday in Gulf Shores as they became the sixth Tiger team to win a state championship in track and field.
The T.R. Miller boys track team racked up 140 points to Winfield’s 80 to capture their sixth state championship in track and field Friday in Gulf Shores.
The win was the first for T.R. Miller since winning the state championship in 2006 in 3A.
T.R. Miller has now won four state championships in 3A and two in 4A since 1991.
T.R. Miller, who led 49-42 after the first day of events on Thursday used four top-medal first place finishes from Terez Lane and also won the 400-meter relay to get the win.
Lane won the 110-meter hurdles, triple jump and high jump on Thursday and capped off his 4-for-4 day week with a first place finish in the long jump.
Other Tigers were excited about the state championship win.
After the T.R. Miller Tigers racked up in the 1A-3A part of the competitions, W.S. Neal began their day Friday afternoon in the 4A-6A competition.
After one day of events, W.S. Neal’s girls were in eighth place with eight points and the boys were in 21st place with two points.
