The East Escambia County Chapter of the American Red Cross will administer Project SHARE this year.
Those who qualify may call the Red Cross office beginning today to make an appointment. Those appointments will be made beginning July 15.
The interim director of the Red Cross chapter, Chris Smith, said this will be a first come, first serve project.
The object of Project SHARE is to assist the head of the household, the elderly and disabled facing problems with their energy bills.
To qualify, a household must meet certain criteria which are based on income, age and disability.
Persons making application have to be interviewed and have a current unpaid utility bill or an established need to purchase a source of energy.
They must have insufficient family or community resources to meet energy needs, and have assurance from the energy supplier that payment will result in restoration/continuation of the home energy supply.
All energy sources of electricity, gas, coal, oil, LP gas or kerosene are eligible from July 1 to Dec. 31.
The program applies to persons living in the Brewton and Flomaton areas.
Call the Red Cross at 867-3426 for more information.
