City school board OKs new budget

The Brewton City Board of Education passed a new budget for the fiscal year Monday, one with fewer dollars than the year before.
And school officials have said that in all likelihood, next year’s budget will be cut again because state tax projections are falling lower than expected.
In other business Monday, school board members:
J.F. Pate is currently finishing construction on Foley Middle School, Smith said.
In July, the school board approved 22 contractors for pre-qualification for construction of the middle school, expected to begin this fall. School officials have said the lack of construction projects because of the economic downturn has helped attract more contractors to the project.
