Mrs. Ola Mae Howard, 84, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009. She was a native of Monroe County and a resident of Brewton. She was a member of Piney Grove Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Willie Clearance Howard; her daughter, Blondie Mae Howard; her parents, Nathaniel and Bufford Mallard; a brother, Lewis Mallard; her sisters, Ida Mae Drakeford, Melvin Askew and Alberta Mallard.
She is survived by two sons, Willie (Gwen) Howard Jr. of Brewton, and Eddie Howard of Madison, Wis.; a great-granddaughter, Ashantiana Howard of Madison; four sisters, Lois Mallard and Vera Montgomery, both of Brewton, Virgina (Stanley) Gunn of Fayetteville, N.C., and Nellie Mallard of DesMoines, Iowa; four brothers, Elder Willie (Dora) Mallard of Los Angeles, Calif., Henry (Mildred) Mallard of Marshall , Mich., Carey (Ruth) Mallard of Bellwood, Ill., and McArthur Mallard of Sacramento, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Betty Mallard of Moore Haven, Fla.; two nieces, Joyce (Donald) Jordan of Quiltman, Miss., and Ruby Howard of Detroit, Mich.; and a number of other family and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 2, at 11 a.m. at Greater Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. William Brown officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
