Mrs. Ruthie Bernice Nelson Johnson, 81, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at her residence after a brief illness. She was a native of Escambia County and a former resident of Chicago, Ill., before moving back to Brewton. She was a member of Damascus Assembly of God Church and she was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Lona Jackson Nelson and a sister, Edna Faye Nelson.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Bibb Johnson of Brewton; six brothers, Adolph (Wanda) Nelson of Savannah, Ga., James (Mildred) Nelson and Johnny (Nancy) Nelson, both of Gaylesville, Ala., Roy Nelson of Brewton, Jr. (Luverne) Nelson of Houston, Texas and Gerald Nelson of Chicago; a sister, Catherine Nelson Richburg of Castleberry; a sister-in-law, Linda Nelson of Pennington, Tenn.; a special caregiver, Donna Nelson of Kolinske; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Greer officiating. Burial followed at Zion Hill Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
