T.R. Miller’s Lady Tiger softball team’s T.R. Miller Invitational will continue today at the YMCA Sportspark in Brewton.
Play will resume Saturday at 9 a.m. with the first of two pool play games and the single elimination tournament will begin at noon based on pool play seedings.
Pool A teams originally consisted of Florala, T.R. Miller, Northview, and Escambia County with Pool B teams consisting of Monroe County, W.S. Neal, J.U. Blacksher, and Jay.
Recent events in Jay, Fla. prompted officials there to have the school’s team dropout of the tournament. Clarke County has replaced Jay in the tournament.
According to news reports, Jay’s assistant principal said the withdrawal was because of “tensions” in the community, but wouldn’t say what type of tensions.
Also, J.U. Blacksher has dropped out of the tournament for unknown reasons, but none related to the Jay incident.
T.R. Miller’s JV took over for J.U. Blacksher in the tournament.
T.R. Miller will open play at 9 a.m. against Escambia County and Florala and Northview will play at 10:15 a.m.
W.S. Neal will now play Clarke County (Jay) at 9 a.m. while the T.R. Miller JV (J.U. Blacksher) and Monroe County game that was set for 9 a.m. will now tangle at 10:15 a.m. due to T.R. Miller’s varsity also playing at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
A lunch break will be held from 11:30 p.m. to noon.
In the single elimination tournament, the No. 1 seed from pool A will play the No. 4 seed from pool B at noon. The game will be followed by the No. 2 team frompool A and No. 3 from pool B at 1:15 p.m.
Also at noon on field C, the No. 1 seed from pool B and the No. 4 seed from pool A will play.
