WSN Eagle baseball takes UMS to extra innings

After hanging close with No. 5-ranked UMS-Wright at home Thursday night in a 7-4 loss, the W.S. Neal Eagle baseball team traveled to Mobile Friday and put up two good fights again with the Bulldogs before losing both games.
W.S. Neal lost 5-4 in nine innings in game one before losing 8-3 in game two to fall to 12-11 overall and to 2-4 in area play.
UMS-Wright 5, W.S. Neal 4, nine innings
UMS-Wright scored three unanswered runs in the sixth inning to tie the game at 4-4 to send the game into extra innings before winning in the ninth inning.
The Bulldog leadoff batter doubled and was followed by a sacrifice bunt and throwing error that allowed the winning run to score.
Jeremy Myers took the loss on the mound in relief as he pitched 2 1/3innings and allowed one hit and one unearned run.
Brian Settle got the start and went 5 2/3 innings and allowed seven hits, struck out three, walked five and allowed one earned run.
At the plate for W.S. Neal, Logan Williamson was 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored and Hunter Mullins was 1-for-3 with one run scored.
Reid Johnson was also 1-for-3 with one run scored.
UMS-Wright 8, W.S. Neal 3
In game two, after both teams scored two runs in the first inning, UMS scored four in the second inning and two late runs to win by five.
The Bulldogs had five hits to W.S. Neal’s four, but the Eagles made five errors in the game.
Keith Bradley took the loss for W.S. Neal as he went six innings and allowed five hits, struck out two, walked one and had two earned runs.
Williamson was 1-for-3 and Settle was 1-for-1 with one run scored. Josh Palmer was 1-for-3 with one RBI and Cam Blackman was 1-for-3 in the loss.
