Brewton and EB Little League teams get wins in recent action

In Brewton Little League softball’s recent games, the Brewton Thunder downed the Heat 6-5 and the Racers took down the East Brewton Racers 12-10.
Brewton Thunder 6, Heat 5
It took extra innings for the Thunder to squeeze by the Heat in a pitching duel between Lizzy Pollitte for the Thunder, and Amelia Peach of the Heat.
Brittney Warren scored in the first inning, with Jessica Day getting the RBI for the Thunder then the pitchers went to work as Peach held the Thunder to one hit and one run while Pollitte held the Heat scoreless, with one hit through the first three innings.
Shanika Tinker sent a shot to centerfield for a double, then stole third base and home to make the score 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning in favor of the Thunder.
The Heat responded with doubles from Heather Spinks and Sidney Diurno, with Tori Sims, Spinks, and Lara Moore scoring, putting the Heat ahead 3-2.
In the top of the fifth inning, Pollitte blasted a shot to right field for a inside park homerun, driving in Chelsea Blunt, for a one run lead before Peach fanned the next three batters to retire the Thunder.
The Heat tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, with Shelby Mount stealing home to make it 4-4.
The Thunder started the top of the sixth inning with Jessica Day getting to first base on a perfect bunt, and Tykeria Powell got on with a base on balls. Then Tinker sent another shot to centerfield for her second double, driving in two more runs, making it 6-4. Emanae Curry made two sparkling defensive plays to retire the Thunder.
Laura Leigh Moore scored one run for the fighting Heat in the bottom of the sixth inning, before Pollitte ended the pitching duel by striking out three to end the game.
Both teams made fantastic defensive plays, with the pitchers being the highlight of the game.
Pollitte and Peach combined for 19 strikeouts. Peach had 10, allowing five hits, and Pollitte had nine, allowing four hits.
For the Thunder, 3-2 in league play, Shanika Tinker was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI’s. Jessica Day was 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Pollitte was 1-for-3 with a homerun and two RBIs.
For the Heat, 1-4 in league play, Heather Spinks was 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI. Sidney Diurno was 1-for-2 with a double and one RBI. Shelby Mount and Kathryn Benson was 1-for-2 each.
Brewton Racers 12,
EB Racers 10
In a battle of the Racers, the Brewton Racers topped East Brewton Racers 12-10.
Brewton’s Racers pounded out nine hits and were led by Myra Reiss, Anna Grace White, and Bethany McDonald, each going 2-for-2.
White and McDonald each scored twice.
Brown, Reiss, and McDonald, took the win on the mound, allowing five hits and striking out seven.
Caitlin Chavers took the loss for the EB Racers who were led by Candice Mealer, who was 4-for-4 with three doubles.
Cheyanna Godwin had three runs, while Mealer, and Caitlin Chavers had two each.
In East Brewton Little League action Monday night, the Dodger, Yankees, Braves and Sunbirds all captured wins.
The Dodgers defeated the Braves 8-3 while the Yankees defeated the Red Sox 5-0.
The Braves earned a 5-2 win over the Cardinals and in interleague softball play, the Sunbirds pounded the Brewton Force 19-0.
Dodgers 8, Braves 3
Conner Huskey and Brandon Moye combined for a no hitter over the Braves as they won 8-3.
Huskey allowed two runs and walked two and struck out four in the win and Moye allowed one run, one walk, and struck out four.
At the plate for the Dodgers, Huskey was 1-for-3 with a triple and Jacoby Hawthorne and Jacob Crane were both 1-for-1.
For the Braves, Hunter Revel scored twice and Weston Riddle scored once as the team had no hits.
Riddle allowed two runs, two hits, walked two, and stuck out 10 in the loss and Tyler Williams allowed six runs, one hit and struck out one.
Yankees 5, Red Sox 0
Despite having only one hit, the Yankees shutout the Red Sox to win 5-0.
Colton Morris earned the win on the mound as he walked three, allowed four hits and struck out 14.
Blake McGraw had the lone hit for the Yankees as he was 1-for-3 with a double.
For the Red Sox, Hunter Colley and Kinoa Gumapac pitched in the loss.
Josh Fields was 2-for-2 with a triple and Matthew Ledford and Tyler Weaver were both 1-for-2.
Braves 5, Cardinals 2
In 11- and 12-year-old baseball, the Braves downed the Cardinals 5-2.
Hayden Hammond was 2-for-3 with a double and Logan Hendricks was 2-for-2.
Hannah Fillmore was 1-for-3 with a double and Conner White was 1-for-2 along with Mason Kent.
Hammond and Fillmore pitched in the win for the Braves.
For the Cardinals, Harley Fuqua was 1-for-2 and TyShawn Davis was 1-for-1 with a double.
Lane Chavers was 1-for-3.
Davis and Chavers pitched in the loss for the Cardinals. Davis allowed two runs, one hit, walked two and struck out five.
Chavers allowed three runs, six hits and struck out five.
Sunbirds 19,
Brewton Force 0
While both teams had only one hit each, the Sunbirds scored 19 runs while holding the Force to none.
Tori Wyatt earned the win on the mound for the Sunbirds as she pitched a shut out allowing one hit, walked three and struck out seven.
Madison Winchester was 1-for-1 for the lone Sunbird hit.
For the Force, Leslie Holmes and Erin Davis pitched in the loss.
Holmes allowed 16 runs, no hits, walked 15 and struck out two. Davis allowed three runs, one hit, walked two and struck out two.
Molly McConaghy had the lone hit as she was 1-for-1.
