Fly-in shows off airport

Saturday’s first Spring Fly-in at the Brewton Municipal Airport was a great opportunity for local residents to experience a facility some might not have realized existed.
For a city our size, having a well-run airport is an important community and economic development tool. Most of us might not realize it, but the airport is used more than we think. Companies interested in expanding or locating in Brewton or Escambia County often use the airport as a first stop to experience the community. As pilot Kevin Bishop — who frequents the airport — pointed out, the airport is Brewton’s “front door.”
Celebrities have used the airport — although most of the time we don’t realize it.
And the U.S. Air Force’s Whiting Field uses the airport regularly for training missions.
Folks might not be flying Delta nonstop to New York, but for our community, the airport is a valuable economic development tool.
We’re glad the fly-in was such a success, and we hope the airport and chamber will host another event next year. Armed with new ideas and suggestions, they will likely plan an even better event next year.
While you might never use or need the Brewton Municipal Airport, your tax dollars are supporting something that helps our community, every day.
