Brewton Middle School basketball splits opener at Andy

In their first game of the 2010 basketball season, the Brewton Middle School boys and girls basketball teams split an away game against Andalusia Thursday.

The Brewton Middle School Lady Tigers won 23-11 to start the season 1-0 while the boys lost 37-11 to start the season 0-1.

Brewton Middle School will be back in action Monday Nov. 1 at home against Jay at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.

BMS Lady Tigers 23, Andalusia 11

Trailing 6-5 at halftime, the Lady Tigers of Brewton outscored Andalusia 11-1 in the third quarter enroute to a 23-11, 12-point win.

Brewton trailed 4-2 at the end of the first quarter. The team came back in the second quarter and outscored Andalusia 3-2. The scoring drive would have Brewton trailing by one at halftime.

In the third quarter, Brewton outscored Andalusia 11-1 to take a 16-7 lead. They led the fourth quarter 7-4 to win 23-11.

Tempest Thompson led Brewton with 16 points and Emonae Curry followed with four points.

Shakira Nicholson chipped in two points and Zakeea Knight added one point in the win.

BMS boys 11

The Brewton Middle School boys started off their season Thursday night with a 27-11 loss to Andalusia.

Brewton was outscored 10-2 in the first quarter and 6-3 in the second to trail 16-5 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Andalusia held a 6-2 lead to take a 22-7 lead and outscored Brewton 12-4 in the fourth quarter to get the win by 23 points.

Kellyn Winn and Chardiun Johnson both had three points in the loss and Trin Miller and Michael Wood had two points each.

Jones Manning chipped in one point in the loss.
