A Brewton man lost his life Tuesday evening following a crash involving a motorcycle and a bicycle on U.S. 29 just 13 miles north of East Brewton.
Dennis Leroy Carter, 49, died from injuries sustained in a crash reported at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday evening. Carter was driving a 1979 Yamaha at the time of the incident.
Also injured in the crash was Justin T. Payne, 16, also of Brewton. Payne was transported to D.W. McMillan Hospital to be treated for his injuries. No details on his condition have been made available.
Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies also responded to the crash. Officials with the department say both cycles were traveling north on U.S. 29 when the crash occurred just west of Damascus Road.
“The motorcycle didn’t appear to have any lights and simply rear-ended the bicycle,” Sheriff’s officials said.
Troopers said Carter was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Other details of the crash have not been released by Alabama State Trooper officials, however the incident remains under investigation.
