JDCC softball splits opener

After seeing several of their first games get cancelled or postponed due to the weather, the Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawk softball team finally got their chance to take to the diamond Friday afternoon at home.
The Lady Warhawks played a doubleheader against Jones County Junior College and came away with a split to start their season 1-1.
The Lady Warhawks won the first game 5-1 before losing the second 8-0.
JDCC will play on the road at Meridian Tuesday and at Jones County Wednesday before returning home Thursday for a rescheduled game against PJC from earlier in the year.
Game one: JDCC 5, Jones 1
With the game tied 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning, JDCC scored four unanswered runs to get their first win of the season in their first game 5-1.
JDCC scored one run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 2-1 lead and added three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to get the win by four.
Danielle McCastle led JDCC with a homerun and two RBIs as she went 1-for-3.
Sarah Dunaway was 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI and Kayla Hayes had two RBIs as she went 2-for-2.
Rebeccah Wright was 1-for-2 and Mallori Armstrong and Amber Steadham were both 1-for-3 in the win.
Brittany Linton earned the win on the mound as she went the complete game and allowed one run on three hits, walked three and struck out 12.
Game two: Jones 8, JDCC 0
In game two, JDCC was no hit and shutout losing 8-0 to drop their record to 1-1.
Jones scored two runs in the first and second innings, three in the fourth, and one in the sixth to get the win.
Armstrong took the loss on the mound for JDCC going 1 2/3 innings and allowing four runs, two earned, one hit, walked five and struck out three.
