JDCC baseball falls to Jeff State Thursday 12-7

In a battle of the Jefferson’s Thursday on the baseball diamond in Brewton, Jefferson State edged out the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawks 12-7.
The loss dropped JDCC to 9-9-1.
The Warhawks trailed Jefferson State 7-1 after the top of the third and 9-3 after the top of the fourth, but rallied to cut the lead to 9-7 after five innings of play.
With the lead cut to two, an error in the sixth and a misplayed ball in the outfield led to a three-run inning for the Pioneers who took a 12-7 lead.
Neither team would score the remainder of the game as JDCC lost by five.
Jefferson State scored four runs in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth, and three in the sixth while JDCC scored one in the first, two in the third, one in the fourth, and three in the fifth.
Jarris Whitaker took the loss on the mound for JDCC. Whitaker went 3 1/3 innings allowing nine runs, six earned, on 11 hits.
Joey Hedden and Cole Vickery also pitched in the loss going six innings and allowing two runs, four hits and striking out five.
Lee Hunter was 1-for-3 and Nathan Edwards was 2-for-5 with one RBI.
Xavier Cunningham was 1-for-3 with one RBI and Brandon Blackwelder was 1-for-5.
Bennie Britton was 2-for-4 and Tyler Walker was 1-for-5 with one RBI.
Bill Hamrick was 2-for-5 with a double and Robbie Jernigan was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
