The Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk baseball team recently went 1-2 in their most recent three games.
JDCC saw their losing streak grow to six games with a 13-3 loss to Wallace State-Selma, but ended the streak with a 4-3 win over Bishop State at home Sunday.
Tuesday, JDCC dropped their overall record to 15-30-1 and 5-20 in conference play with a 15-9 home loss to Southern Union.
In the home loss to Southern Union Tuesday, JDCC head coach Darrell Blevins said his team kept it close until the top of the ninth inning.
“We had the score close at 11-8 going into the top of the ninth and gave four runs including a three run homerun to let the score get to 15-9,” Blevins said. “Our guys played hard all day. We missed a couple of opportunities and left a few too many runners on base without being able to push them across. We played these guys much tougher this time around versus the first time we played them a month ago.”
Blevins said his catcher Tyler Walker had a very good day at the plate and continues to do an exceptional job of directing JDCC’s pitching staff, even while playing with a sore right hamstring.
“Jarris Whitaker seems to be getting over some arm fatigue and was able to give us a couple of strong innings especially after getting hit by a line drive in his throwing arm at the end of the first inning,” Blevins said. We will now begin preparing for Wallace Community College of Dothan on Saturday.”
Game time with Wallace of Dothan Saturday is set for 2 p.m. in Dothan.
