JDCC softball sweeps Alabama Southern Tuesday at home

Needing to win their remaining conference games to make the state tournament, the Lady Warhawk softball team of Jefferson Davis Community College started out on the right foot Tuesday at home with a sweep of Alabama Southern.
The Lady Warhawks won game one 1-0 and game two 9-1 to improve their overall record to 24-26 and their conference record to 8-12. The win was the fifth straight win for the Lady Warhawks.
JDCC will have their final four home games at home. The Lady Warhawks will take on Bishop State Saturday, April 23 at home at 1 and 3 p.m.
JDCC will play LBW at home Tuesday, April 26 at 1 and 3 p.m.
Game one: JDCC 1, ASCC 0
The Lady Warhawks of JDCC needed only one run in the bottom of the first to claim a 1-0 win over the Lady Eagles of ASCC.
Mallori Armstrong singled in Brittany McCastle for the lone run of the game in the first as JDCC picked up the conference win.
Lady Warhawk pitcher Brittany Linton went the distance on the mound holding Alabama Southern to no runs and only one hit in the sixth inning.
Linton struck out seven and walked one in the game and faced just two over the minimum 21 batters in the game. Linton faced only three batter through the fifth inning until facing four in the sixth and seventh innings.
Linton had 11 fly ball outs and three groundball outs.
JDCC had only five hits in the win with Jennifer Morris going 1-for-4 and Elise Schanley going 1-for-2 with a double.
Armstrong was 1-for-2 with the lone RBI and Andrea Ruschel and Kayla Hayes were both 1-for-3 in the Lady Warhawk’s win.
Alabama Southern just missed taking a 2-1 lead in the final inning as the final out was caught out the outfield wall with a runner on base.
JDCC left 10 runners on base in the win.
Game two: JDCC 9, ASCC 1
In game two, JDCC finished off the sweep with a 9-1 win to improve to 24-26 overall and 8-12 in conference play.
JDCC led 3-0 after the first inning and 6-1 after the third after ASCC scored one in the top of the innings and the Lady Warhawks plated three more runs in the bottom of the inning.
JDCC scored one run in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead and two in the fifth to take an 9-1 lead and win by eight.
JDCC pounded out 14 hits in the win. Schanley was 3-for-3 in game two and Ruschel was 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Brittany McCastle was 2-for-4 and Hayes was 1-for-2. Armstrong was 2-for-3 with three RBI and Ashley Killan was 1-for-3 with one RBI. Nataline Moseley was 1-for-3 with one RBI and Danielle McCastle was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Morris was 1-for-3 for JDCC in the win. McCastle had a double for the Lady Warhawks.
Linton picked up her second win of the day over ASCC as she went five innings and allowed two hits, one run, none earned, walked one and struck out seven.
