JDCC softball sweeps CVCC Sunday, prepares for state tournament Friday

The Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawk softball team ended their season on a high note Sunday at home as they swept Chattahoochee Valley 4-2 and 8-5 to finish their regular season with a 30-28 record.
The wins for the Lady Warhawks of Brewton were their fifth straight and sixth win in their last seven games and 11th out of their last 13.
JDCC will now play in the state tournament Friday against the No. 3 seed at 10 a.m.
JDCC 4, CVCC 2
In game one Sunday against Chattahoochee Valley, JDCC won 4-2 to improve their record to 29-28.
JDCC scored one run in the first inning and two in the fifth to hold a 3-0 lead. After CVCC scored two in the sixth, JDCC added one in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-2 lead and held CVCC scoreless in the seventh for the two-run win.
Brittany Linton earned the win on the mound for the Lady Warhawks pitching seven innings allowing four hits, two earned runs, walked two and struck out five.
Elise Schanley was 1-for-2 with one RBI and Andrea Ruschel was 1-for-3 with one RBI and a double.
Brittany McCastle was 2-for-4 with one RBI and Mallori Armstrong was 1-for-3. Amber Steadham was 1-for-4 with a double and Nataline Moseley was 1-for-3. Danielle McCastle was 2-for-3 for JDCC in the win with one RBI and Jennifer Morris was 1-for-3.
McCastle had a double and a triple.
JDCC 8, CVCC 5
In their final regular season game and second game of the doubleheader, JDCC won 8-5 to end with five straight wins.
JDCC led 1-0 after the first inning and 5-0 after the second inning after plating four runs in the bottom of the inning.
CVCC cut the lead to 5-2 in the top of the third inning, but saw JDCC respond with three in the fourth to hold an 8-2 lead.
In the top of the fifth, JDCC scored three runs to cut the lead to three runs at 8-5. Neither team would score the remainder of the game as JDCC won by three.
Alley Smith earned the win on the mound for JDCC going three innings allowing four hits, two runs, one earned, walked none and struck out one.
Jessica Myrick and Loren McVicker also pitched in the win for the Lady Warhawks.
At the plate for the Lady Warhawks, Schanley was 1-for-3 and Ruschel was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Brittany McCastle batted 1-for-3 and Steadham was 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Moseley was 1-for-4 with one RBI and Danielle McCastle was 2-for-4. Morris was 3-for-3 in the three-run win for the Lady Warhawks.
McCastle had a double for JDCC.
