Blueberry Festival layout changing

This year’s Alabama Blueberry Festival will look a little different this year.
The City of Brewton and the chamber of commerce have agreed to fund the expansion of electrical capability at Burnt Corn Creek Park.
Chamber President Don Ward said the expanded electrical outlets will allow the chamber to rearrange the layout of the festival at the park to move the vendors under more shade.
“The last three Junes have been very hot,” he said. “This way, we will move deeper into the park.”
Ward said Southern Pine has offered to do the trenching for the electrical work, which lowered the cost of the electrical expansion. The total cost will be about $9,000, split between the city and chamber.
The work is expected to be finished in time for this year’s Blueberry Festival, set for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at Burnt Corn Creek Park.
Chamber administrative assistant Michelle Hart said the entire layout of the festival is likely to change, with the vendors located under the trees where the entertainment has been in the past and the entertainment moving to the east side of the park.
In addition to the arts and crafts vendors and entertainment throughout the day, there will be food vendors and a children’s area. The children’s activities will be free this year, Hart said.
