Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawk volleyball head coach Misti Nims has signed 14 new recruits for the 2011 volleyball season.
“This year’s team is a very young team with a lot of local talent,” Nims said. “I am very excited to see how this team progresses. We have a lot of experience even though we are young and we have room for improvement. I expect them to compete for a spot at the state tournament.”
Of the 14 recruits, two come from Flomaton, two from Andalusia, one from Jay and three from the Atmore area out of Escambia Academy and two from Northview.
Leading the recruits for the 2011 Lady Warhawk schedule include Jennifer Daniels a 5-10 outside player from Bob Jones High School in Madison.
“Jennifer brings a big game and experience,” Nims said. “She sat a year after graduating so we hope she brings some leadership and maturity to the court.”
Kiki Youngblood, a 6-3 middle player from Summerdale attended Foley High.
“Kiki brings height, which we haven’t really had at JD,” Nims said. “We are very excited about her raw talent. She will be big on the net and should score many points for us.”
Nyia Underwood a 5-9 middle hitter from Pensacola attended Pine Forest High.
“Nyia brings experience to the court,” Nims said. “She was selected as an all star for the East/West game in Pensacola. She has size and power.”
One of the first players from Flomaton this season is Tara Gafford. Gafford is a 6-1 middle player.
“We are very excited about Tara,” Nims said. “She not only brings height but also explosiveness. She will be a player to watch and will also score a lot of points.”
Sarah Steel is the other outside hitter from Flomaton.
“Sarah is a 5-9 outside player,” Nims said. “Sarah is going to bring a lot to the team. She has a great serve and a great personality that will help hold the team together.”
Tori Bracewell is a 5-7 outside player from Andalusia and attended Straughn High School.
“Tori is an all-around player, she has a great serve and a great vertical,” Nims said.
Shelby Weidenhamer is a 5-5 defensive specialist from Navarre and attended Navarre High.
“Shelby will be the center of the team,” Nims said. “She has great passing ability and is very quick to the ball.”
Hanna Anderson is a 5-9 middle player from Eight Mile, and attended Mary G Montgomery High.
“Hanna has a great passion for the game,” Nims said. “With her height and experience she will provide the depth that we have lacked.”
Jaime Sanders comes from Semmes and also attended MGM.
Sanders is a 5-8 outside player,” Nims said. “Jaime is a go-getter. She has a fire that will motivate the team. She is explosive and is an all-around player.”
Amber Huskey is a 5-10 outside/middle player from Atmore, and attended Escambia Academy High.
“Amber is a strong player,” Nims said. “She is explosive and has a strong serve. Very excited to see her grow.”

Amber McMillian is a 5-2 defensive specialist from Atmore, and attended Northview High School.
“Amber is transferring from Bishop State where she played softball,” Nims said. “She is a go-getter and will be all of the court. She has a good read on the ball and will provide help on the back row.”
Also from Northview is Cailtlin Hall.
“Caitlin is a 5-9 right side player from Atmore,” Nims said. “Caitlin is our only returned from last year squad. She will provide much needed leadership on and off the court.”
