Homecoming takes over community

Brewton and East Brewton will be filled with activity throughout the day today as T.R. Miller High School and W.S. Neal High School celebrate their annual homecoming events.
At T.R. Miller High School, an alumni reception will be held on the lawn of the school near the band room beginning at 10:30 a.m. A tent will be set up for those who wish to gather and relax during the school day. The reception area will be open until 11:30 a.m. for alumni. A pep rally will begin at 1 p.m. in the school gym and is open to students and alumni on campus for the day. School will be dismissed at the end of the pep rally at 2 p.m. Floats for the annual homecoming parade will depart from the school at 2:30 p.m. and proceed to the starting point of the parade on Evergreen Avenue. The parade, which will begin at 3 p.m., will leave the area behind First Baptist Church and proceed through the streets of downtown Brewton stopping for a citywide pep rally in front of the Escambia County Courthouse on Belleville Avenue. Floats and marching units will proceed to the city garage for disbanding.
Pre-game ceremonies will begin at 6:30 p.m. when the homecoming queen and her court will be presented along with introductions of alumni on hand for the celebration. Following the game, the Brewton Civic Center will be open for a homecoming dance for students of the school. The dance will conclude at midnight.
At W.S. Neal, activities will be going on around campus throughout much of the day with floats lining up beginning at 8 a.m. The activities throughout the day will include an alumni reception in the foyer of O.C. Weaver Auditorium from 9 to 10 a.m. A special alumni pep rally will follow from 10 to 10:30 a.m. The pep rally will feature routines and sketches highlighting each year honored for the reunion groups on hand. The homecoming court will also be introduced at the pep rally. All floats are to be in place by 12:30 p.m. with the parade beginning at 1 p.m. Pre-game ceremonies, which will feature the crowning of the 2011 homecoming queen, will begin at 6:25 p.m. Kickoff for the game will be at 7 p.m.
