TRM basketball falls to Atmore, Leroy and Jackson

In games Friday at Atmore and Monday in the Jackson Christmas tournament, the T.R. Miller Tiger basketball teams all suffered losses.
Friday in Atmore, the B-team Tigers, the Lady Tigers and varsity Tigers all lost to the Blue Devils and Monday in the Jackson tournament, the Lady Tigers lost to Leroy while the varsity Tigers blew a late lead to fall to the home team Aggies.
The B-team Tigers lost to Atmore 32-16 to fall to 2-3 while the Lady Tigers lost at the buzzer to Atmore 35-33 to see their record drop to 5-5. In varsity action Friday, the Tigers were defeated by Atmore 66-29 to drop their record to 3-4.
In games Monday, the Lady Tigers dropped a 32-23 decision to Leroy to see their record fall to 5-6 while the varsity Tigers lost to Jackson 52-46 to fall to 3-5.
The Lady Tigers and varsity Tigers were set to play again Tuesday in the Jackson tournament against Southern Choctaw.
Southern Choctaw’s girls lost to Jackson while the boys lost to Washington County.
All three teams for T.R. Miller will be back in action Tuesday in area play, as they will travel to Excel to take on the Panthers. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.

Monday: Leroy 32, TRM Lady Tigers 23
With the game tied at 18-all with 7:49 left in the game, the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers were outscored 14-5 the rest of the game by Leroy including an 8-0 run late in the game to suffer a nine-point loss, 32-23.
In the fourth, T.R. Miller tied the game at 18 after trailing 18-16 after three quarters. After Leroy took a 22-19 lead 6:23 left to play, the Lady Bears went on an 8-0 run to take a 30-19 lead with 3:19 left to play and outscore T.R. Miller 14-7 in the final quarter to get the win.
“We just have to get back in and work on some things,” T.R. Miller Lady Tiger head coach Ron Jackson said after the loss to Leroy Monday in Jackson. “We are a young team. We just have to hustle more and play harder. Hopefully things will get together a little better when we get more practice time over the holidays. Usually we get a little better over the holidays, but it does not seem like it is going to happen this year. But, we still have a week left.”
T.R. Miller led Jackson 5-4 in the first quarter with 4:26 left before Jackson would go on a 6-0 run to take a 10-5 lead and lead 10-7 after one quarter of play.
In the second quarter, T.R. Miller would edge out Leroy 7-4 to tie the game at 14 at the half. In the third quarter, Leroy held a 4-2 advantage to take an 18-16 lead into the fourth, but doubling up the Lady Tigers 14-7 in the quarter to get the win by nine.
Leah Brundidge had all 23 points for T.R. Miller in the loss. T.R. Miler was 6-for-12 from the free throw line while Leroy was 8-for-21.

Monday: Jackson 52, TRM varsity Tigers 46
The T.R. Miller varsity Tigers were 2:22 from pulling a stunning upset over Jackson Monday in the Jackson Christmas tournament. But with a 46-43 lead at that point, the Aggies outscored T.R. Miller 9-0 to rally to get a 52-46 win.
The Tigers and Aggies played to a 15-all tie after one quarter of play only to see Jackson edge out T.R. Miller 15-12 in the second quarter to take a 30-27 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, the Tigers rallied with a 13-10 advantage to tie the game at 40 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, T.R. Miller led by three points with 2:22 left to play before the Aggies’ 9-0 run to get the win by six points.
T.R. Miller trailed 40-36 with 1:26 left in the third quarter before going on a 6-0 run to end the quarter and start the fourth to claim a 42-40 lead with 6:52 left in the game.
“The guys played with a lot of poise tonight,” T.R. Miller varsity Tiger head coach Ron Jackson said. “We moved the ball around a lot and played good defense, but a few more made baskets here and we probably would have won the thing. Down the stretch, we kind of had to start fouling and they made their free throws. I think they made four or five down the stretch. We put them on line and they made them. We lost by six, but it was a good ballgame. We are getting there.”
T.R. Miller was 7-for-15 from the free throw line in the loss while Jackson was 17-for-23 including going 5-for-6 in the final 53.5 after the Tigers had to resort to fouling.
Darrion Salter led T.R. Miller in the loss with 19 points and Kameron Winn added 10 points. Mark Bryant had eight and Marc Edged chipped in four points. Jaquan Dewberry added three points and Caleb Dickey chipped in two points in the loss.

Friday: Atmore 32, TRM B-team 16
The Tiger B-team was held to four total points in the second half Friday against Atmore to suffer a 16-point loss to the Blue Devils, 32-16.
Atmore led T.R. Miller 9-5 after the first quarter of play and 17-12 at the half following an 8-7 advantage for Atmore in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, Atmore edged out the Tigers 5-3 to increase their lead to 22-15 heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, Atmore held the Tigers to one point while pouring in 10 of their own to get the win by 16.
Keion Smith led the Tigers with seven points in the loss.

Friday: Atmore 35, TRM Lady Tigers 33
After two close games between the two teams with T.R. Miller winning both, Atmore’s Lady Blue Devils got the upper hand on the Lady Tigers in their third meeting in another close game.
With T.R. Miller leading 28-18 after three quarters, Atmore outscored the Lady Tigers 17-5 in the fourth and hit a shot at the buzzer to win the game by two points, 35-33.
The Lady Tigers led Atmore 7-5 after one quarter of play but was outscored 11-8 in the second to trail 16-15 at the half.
In the third quarter, T.R. Miller took a 28-18 lead with a 13-2 advantage in the third quarter before being outscored in the fourth to take the loss.
LaTeysia Montgomery led the Lady Tigers in the loss with 16 points and Leah Brundidge followed with 15. Taylor Guthrie chipped in two points in the loss.

Friday: Atmore 66, TRM varsity Tigers 29
Atmore scored 14 points or more in every quarter Friday night as they cruised to a 66-29 win over the T.R. Miller varsity Tigers.
Atmore jumped out to a 19-6 lead over the Tigers in the first quarter and outscored the Tigers 15-5 in the second quarter to hold a 34-11 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, Atmore held an 18-11 advantage to increase their lead to 52-22 before outscoring the Tigers 14-7 in the fourth to get the win by 37.
Jequell Dewberry led with seven points in the loss and Mark Bryant had six.
