In their first conference game of the season Monday on the road in Monroeville against Alabama Southern, JDCC picked up a 73-60 win to improve to 7-5 overall and to 1-0 in conference play.
JDCC and Alabama Southern were tied at 31 after the first half, but the Warhawks outscored ASCC 42-29 in the second half to get the win by 13 points.
“After being tied at 31 at half, we ran out to a 55-35 lead, mostly fueled by D.J. Jackson and our second unit of Sherman Presswood, R.J. Bowers, Derell Washington, Greg Crum, and Adam Stumpf,” Gainer said. “Alabama Southern made a nice run and cut it to seven with about six minutes left, but we were able to push the lead back out to 16. They hit a three in the closing seconds to make the final score. D.J. played his best game yet as a Warhawk. Our defense was outstanding, particularly early in the second half.”
D.J. Jackson led with 22 points and earned a double-double as he finished with 10 rebounds to lead the team.
Scott finished with 21 points and Ragland added 12. Presswood chipped in six points and Larel Jackson had five. Rice and Bowers had three points each while Crum added one.
Larel Jackson led with five assists and four steals in the win while Ragland also had four steals.
Rice led the Warhawks in the win with two blocks.
The Warhawks were 20-for-39 from the free throw line for 51 percent and shot 57 percent from the field.
