Warhawk basketball improves to 11-6 overall and 5-1 in conference

The Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk basketball team improved to 11-6 overall and to 5-1 in conference play Thursday as they defeated Bishop State 52-50 in Mobile.
The win for the Warhawks was their third straight win.
The Warhawks of Brewton trailed Bishop by seven points after the first half of play, 25-18, but rallied in the second half to outscore Bishop by nine points, 34-25, to get the win by seven.
The Warhawks got up 4-0 on Bishop before falling behind 16-4. The Warhawks would cut Bishop’s lead to 18-16 before they ended the half with a 9-0 run to lea 25-18. In the second half, the Warhawks got down 31-21, but tied it with 12:30 to go at 32. From there, JDCC took the lead of 35-32 with 11:52 to go, and seesawed back and forth until getting the win by two points.
Turmonte Ragland led the Warhawks in the win with 16 points. Ragland also led with four steals and was one of six Warhawks with a block.
Sherman Presswood followed with 12 points while Brandon Scott finished with nine points. Scott also led with one block, three assists and 10 rebounds.
Greg Crum added seven points and one block and R.J. Bowers finished with three points. D.J. Jackson added three points and one block while Larel Jackson had two points and three assists.
JDCC will play at Faulkner in Bay Minnette Monday at 7 p.m. in a conference game before returning home Thursday, Feb. 2 to take on Alabama Southern.
The game with Alabama Southern is also a conference game and will begin at 7 p.m.
