Verna Marie Shank Shelly

Mrs. Verna Marie Shank Shelly, 95, of Travis Road died Friday, Feb. 3, 2012 in a local nursing facility after a brief illness. She was a native of Lancaster, Pa., a former resident of Manheim, Pa., before moving to Brewton, in 1950. She was a very active pastor’s wife and a member of Bethel Mennonite Church, She was the last of 13 children, volunteered in the local nursing home, and was a Homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Zeager Shelly.
She is survived by three sons, Gene (Martine) Shelly of Bronx, N.Y., Arlan (Lawana) Shelly of Brewton, and Lmar (Sara) Shelly of Hickory, N.C.; two daughters, Paula (Jim) Mickelson of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Bernadine Borntrager of Pell City; a sister, Mary Brubaker of Manheim; nine grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.
Survivors:
Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m. at Bethel Mennonite Church with Pastor John Kemp, Pastor John Gehman, and Pastor J.D. Landis officiating. Buried followed in Bethel Church Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
