JDCC basketball defeats Bishop and Enterprise, plans “whiteout” for Faulkner Thursday

Leading by as many as 14 points in the second half Monday at home against Bishop State, the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk basketball team hung on to claim a 72-62 win.
The Warhawks led Bishop State 41-31 after the first half of play and both teams scored 31 points in the second half as the Warhawks got the win by 10.
JDCC led by as many as 14 points with 1:33 left in the game before the Wildcats used a 10-0 run to cut the lead to four points, 66-62, with 50.3 left in the game.
From there, JDCC would end the game on a 6-0 run, making 4-of-7 free throws to end the game and get the win.
JDCC shot 14-for-22 from the free throw line in the win while Bishop State was 7-for-8.
Turmonte Ragland led the Warhawks with 20 points and was one of three Warhawks in double figures. Brandon Scott finished with 14 points and Larel Jackson finished with 10.
Sherman Presswood had nine points and R.J. Bowers had eight points. D.J. Jackson added six points and Greg Crum had four points. Derell Washington chipped in one point in the win.
Ragland led with nine rebounds and Larel Jackson finished with a double-double as he had 11 assists in the win. Adam Stumpf led the Warhawks with three blocks and Ragland also led with four steals.
JDCC 80, Enterprise 69
Turmonte Ragland poured in 26 points and Brandon Scott added 24 along with 14 rebounds last week at Enterprise as the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk basketball team defeated the Weevils 80-69.
The win for the Warhawks improved JDCC to 14-8 overall and to 8-3 in conference play and increased JDCC’s winning streak to three games.
JDCC led Enterprise 34-29 after the first half of play and outscored the Weevils 46-40 in the second half to get the win by 11.
Along with Ragland’s 26 points and Scott’s double-double with 24 points and 14 rebounds, Greg Crum added eight points and R.J. Bowers finished with seven. Of Ragland’s 26 points, 22 came in the second half.
Larel Jackson chipped in six points and D.J. Jackson had four. Sherman Presswood added three points in the win and Adam Stumpf chipped in two.
Larel Jackson and Presswood both had four assists each to lead the team and D.J. Jackson and Presswood led with one block each. Presswood also lead with five steals.
The Warhawks are currently tied for second place, one game behind Faulkner with three games to go in conference.
JDCC will play Faulkner at home Thursday at 7 p.m. at Warhawk Gym on the campus of Jefferson Davis Community College in Brewton.
Students are planning a “whiteout” for Thursday’s game. Everyone is encouraged to wear as much white as possible.
“This is probably the biggest game at JDCC in 25 years or more, so we need a great, enthusiastic crowd,” JDCC head coach Allen Gainer said.
